State licensed and accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, the facility features four operating rooms, one endoscopy room and both a post-anesthesia room and a discharge recovery area, where families can stay with the patient. The Hartwycks Offer a Broad Array of Nursing, Convalescent and Resident Services

JFK Hartwycks Nursing, Convalescent and Rehabilitation Centers – are located at three sites in Plainfield and Edison. The facilities provide more than 600 long-term care beds for traditional nursing home care, rehabilitation, subacute and medical rehabilitation care, adult medical day care, respite care and more.

JFK Hartwyck at Cedar Brook
A recently renovated facility, JFK Hartwyck at Cedar Brook is bright and cheerful, with two solariums in each wing. A large, beautiful all-purpose room serves as an exquisite dining area, complete with flowers and music during lunch and dinner. Between meals, the room is transformed into a hub of activity where recreational events take place to keep residents active.There are plenty of areas for socializing with family or other residents, including a lobby and several lounges. Tastefully appointed bedrooms are comfortably furnished. Outdoors, residents enjoy fresh air, lovely grounds and a variety of events, including barbecues and parties in the shade and comfort of trees and umbrellas.

JFK Hartwyck at Cedar Brook, which is located next to the scenic Cedar Brook Park, also provides respite care, short-term rehabilitation and the only Huntington’s Disease Unit in the state of New Jersey.

JFK Hartwyck at the Edison Estates
Hartwyck at Edison Estates is the most recent addition to the Hartwyck family. The first unique feature a visitor will notice when arriving at the facility is a gazebo on the well-tended front lawn for the enjoyment of residents and visitors. Bedrooms offer comfort and style, dining areas are cheery, and, as in all the JFK Hartwyck long-term care facilities, the activities program is exceptional. Residents also enjoy interacting with community members through programs such as Game Night, during which junior volunteers compete with residents in games such as Scrabble, rummy and checkers. JFK Hartwyck at Edison Estates also offers the JFK Subacute Care Center which, together with the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute, provides rehabilitation to adult patients who have been stabilized in an acute-care setting, but do not require the intense and more expensive services delivered by an acute-care hospital or rehabilitation facility. Patients stay at the center between three weeks and three months, at which time they receive individualized treatment by a team of physiatrists, nurses, social workers and therapists. JFK Hartwyck at Oak Tree
Hartwyck at Oak Tree is well known as a provider of high quality nursing, convalescent and rehabilitation care. Oak Tree is a unique facility that provides not only geriatric care, but also specialized care for ventilator-dependent residents as well as residents suffering from traumatic brain injury. Our staff is highly skilled in each of these specialty areas and our activities programs and individualized care plans specifically address each resident’s needs. Oak Tree’s physical design and amenities positively enhance the resident’s experience. Our spacious patio boasts our new waterfall, where residents, families and visitors can relax and socialize. We are also equipped with several large gyms where physical and occupational therapies are performed. Our gift shop is run by our residents with traumatic brain injury; this type of therapy is invaluable in helping our residents regain important daily skills. Our geriatric and ventilator areas are being transformed into neighborhoods which encourage our residents to reminisce about pleasant past experiences. Oak Tree is a dynamic place filled with activities, entertainment, intergenerational programs with the Keith Wold Johnson childcare center adjacent to the facility, as well as frequent barbecues and ice cream socials. Hartwyck at Oak Tree is accredited by the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as well as the Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Hospitals.

The Hartwyck at Oak Tree campus is also home to our Adult Medical/Alzheimer’s Day Center. The JFK Hartwyck Nursing, Convalescent and Rehabilitation Centers include three comprehensive long-term care facilities located in central New Jersey. The facilities provide more than 600 long-term beds for traditional nursing home care, rehabilitation, adult medical day care, sub-acute care and respite care. Hartwyck at Oak Tree is a 180-bed modern, three-story facility that opened in 1987. The Center is home to many specialized services and programs, including those for head-injured patients, coma patients and individuals dependent on ventilators.Hartwyck at Cedar Brook is a 106-bed facility located in Plainfield that provides long-term care and houses the state’s first unit dedicated to the care of Huntington’s Disease patients. Hartwyck at Edison Estates is the largest and most recent addition to the Hartwyck family. The 358-bed facility offers the JFK Sub-acute Center and a secure unit for residents with special needs.

Whispering Knoll is a three-story assisted living facility located in Edison. The community includes 117 studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments, as well as a special care community for residents with memory impairments. JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute
JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute is New Jersey’s most comprehensive rehabilitation facility. Established in 1974 with a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the facility has grown to become the premier rehabilitation hospital in the tri-state area, serving patients referred from more than 100 hospitals throughout New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. A variety of specialized services and programs are offered at the Institute, including physical and occupational therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation, chronic pain management, vocational rehabilitation, audiology and speech pathology and therapeutic recreation.

The New Jersey Neuroscience Institute at JFK Medical Center provides some of the most advanced treatment in the tri-state area for both adult and pediatric neurological conditions. The Institute’s medical team includes physicians at the forefront of their field, with access to the very latest medical and surgical technology, and was the first institution with the Gamma Knife technology in the state. Muhlenberg Schools Harold B. and Dorothy A. Snyder Schools
The Muhlenberg campus is also home to the Muhlenberg Schools of Nursing, Medical Imaging and Therapeutic Sciences that offers diplomas in nursing, radiology, radiation therapy and nuclear medicine. These schools carry on a long tradition of educating future health care professionals with clinical experience obtained in the various departments of the Medical Center. A Multidisciplinary Approach to Treating Cancer
The Regional Cancer Center is committed to providing high quality care for people with cancer. The Center offers all the services needed to effectively identify and treat cancer, including state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, surgery, medical oncology, neuro-oncology, radiation therapy, investigational trials, stereotactic radiosurgery (Gamma Knife), nursing care, counseling, nutritional support, discharge planning, outpatient services and hospice care.

Our cancer patients benefit from a team approach to treatment, which involves a wide array of specially trained professionals. Depending on the particular type of cancer and the circumstances surrounding the case, the patient’s primary care physician may be assisted by a number of physicians from various specialties, including pathologists, oncologists, neuro-oncologists, surgeons, hematologists, radiologists and radiation oncologists. These physicians, in turn, are supported by physicists, registered nurses, radiation therapists, pharmacy personnel, dietitians, counselors and licensed social workers.

The Regional Cancer Center consists of two medical centers, JFK Medical Center and Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center, both of which are accredited by the American College of Surgeons. Because of the comprehensive services available, the need for patients and their families to travel out of central New Jersey for state-of-the-art cancer treatment is eliminated. Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center’s Harold B. and Dorothy A. Snyder Schools carry on a long tradition of educating future healthcare professionals through the Schools of Nursing, Medical Imaging and Therapeutic Sciences.
